Principal Newsletter 2.15.23

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Office Staff Changes

Please accept this notice on behalf of myself and the faculty and staff of the Academy regarding changes to our office staff personnel.

Mrs. Donna Alleva, our Financial Secretary, has accepted another position outside of our organization, which will advance her career.  During her time at OLMCA, she was an invaluable asset with her meticulous financial management, her fundraising savvy, and her ability to wear the many hats needed to help administer all the activities and projects inherent with successfully managing the school.  We will miss these skills and, most of all, her calm, friendly demeanor and enthusiastic support , which our team has personally depended upon.  Please join me in wishing her well as she transitions to the next phase of her career, where she will most assuredly be appreciated.

However, we were fortunate to be able to fill Mrs. Alleva's position with Ms. Lauren Leone, who will return to OLMCA as the new Financial Secretary.  Ms. Leone is well-versed in the routines, policies, and procedures of the Academy and will continue the mission established by Mrs. Alleva.  Mrs. Alleva and Ms. Leone will be working closely together in the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition.  Ms. Leone can be contacted at [email protected]. Please join me in enthusiastically welcoming her back to OLMCA.

OLM WINTER BLOOD DRIVE Sunday, 2/26/2023, 8:45am  to 2:45pm, Parish Hall

There is no substitute for human blood. One in three people will need blood at some time during their lives.  One donation can help save three lives. Approximately every 3 seconds a person in need is receiving a transfusion. The New York Blood Center's need to maintain optimum inventories remains constant, especially at this time.   To make an appointment, please go to NYBC.org. Use the Donate Blood tab (under the New York Blood Center logo) and when the drop down appears, click on Schedule Donation. Click on the Sponsor Name Search tab and then enter Our Lady of Mercy. Enter 02/26/2023 in both the Start Date and End Date boxes, and click on Search. On the next page, click on Schedule and when the next page appears, choose Whole Blood or Automated Red Cell (automated red cell is a double red cell donation) and then select your donation time.  You may also schedule an appointment by calling the Blood Center at 1-800-933-2566.   For the safety of the donors and Blood Center workers, donors must wear masks and observe social distancing throughout the entire donation process.   Remember to bring your donor card or your donor ID number, if you have one, and a photo ID on February 26th. Eat a good meal before donating and do not skip breakfast!  It only takes a little of your time. Please help save lives.

Save the Date: State of the Academy

There will be a State of the Academy on Tuesday, February 28th at 7:00p.m. in the school gym. During this meeting, you will have an opportunity to meet members of Board of Trustees.  You will hear an informative presentation about current happenings and our plan for continuous improvement.

The SchoolStore

Have you heard about the “SchoolStore?” Our students are buzzing about the building trying to earn cool prizes and win gift cards for their teachers.

Thank you to all the families that have participated so far in the School Store Fundraiser. As of today, we have raised $7233 for OLMCA.  This fundraiser will be ongoing throughout the remainder of the school year.  To earn your first prize, you simply need to register and send out emails to family and friends.  To be eligible for additional prizes, you would earn additional points through purchases by family and friends in the "Family Book Store".  In the family book store, there are magazines, home decor, gourmet popcorn, and many other goodies to purchase.  On the school store website, there is also a link to donate a gift card to the teacher.  100% of your donation of a gift card goes directly to the student's teacher to be used for classroom materials.  Also on the school store website are links to other merchants such as GAP, Macys, Walmart, Children's Place etc.  Making a purchase through the link to these vendors earns OLMCA a percentage of your purchase.
