American Legion Post #1424 Poppy Poster

In honor of Memorial Day, our 7th and 8th grade students participated in the American Legion Post #1424 Poppy Poster contest. The students designed posters with the red poppy that symbolizes the remembrance of fallen military members. The posters were showcased at the Memorial Day parade. We are happy to announce that Hannah Rojas (7W) and Joanna Berrios (7H) earned 1st and 2nd Place for their grade level! Congratulations to all of our students that spent hours designing posters that were dedicated to honoring military personnel.

Spring Band and Choral Concert

After last week’s beautiful performances from Grades 3 through 6 along with the 7th and 8th Grade Choir, we are counting down the days until our next showcase! Grades Kindergarten through Second Grade will perform with the School Band their Spring Concert on Wednesday, June 7th at 6:30pm.  This event will take place in the Parish Hall. All students should arrive to the Parish Hall by 6pm and sit with their respective classes.

Looking ahead, the required attire for the Spring Concert will be white tops, black bottoms and black shoes. A white uniform polo shirt may be used. Thank you for your cooperation and we are looking forward to beautiful concerts which showcase the students’ hard work in Music Class this year.

Parking and Driving Safety Reminders

The following , while not conclusive,  are the most imperative reminders of the road safety policies of our school zone, as delineated in New York City Law and enforced by the NYC Police Department:

  • Our school zone signs clearly state the speed limit is 20 MPH from 7AM to 6PM, Monday through Friday, Fines are Higher, and this regulation is Photo Enforced.
  • There is a Stop Sign at the intersection of Kessel Street and 70th Avenue, on all corners, indicating all lanes of traffic are to STOP -ALL WAY
  •  There is a blinking red traffic light at the intersection of Kessel Street and 70th Avenue, reinforcing that all vehicles entering that intersection from any direction must stop.
  • Full cooperation is mandatory with the crossing guard's direction to remain at a complete stop while pedestrians are in the crosswalk until such time as the crossing guard deems the pedestrians to have safely crossed the street.
  • Help your child to alight and enter the car as quickly as possible, at drop-off and pick-up, and consider modifying the times and areas of drop-off and pick-up to not impede safety.
  • Do not block the flow of traffic by double -parking, stopping in the middle of the street, impeding the NYC transit and school buses, opening car doors on the traffic side, making a single lane street into a two-lane street, etc.
  • All pedestrians have the right of way, and all drivers must remain alert for them.
  • Do not use your horn indiscriminately.

We thank those parents who are good role models for the children and help maintain school safety. Please continue to report to this office any such infractions which compromise such safety.
