Principal Newsletter 4.30.18

It’s been quite a weekend here at OLMCA. On Friday, parents, alumni, teachers, and friends painted a beautiful and relaxing beach scene at our Eighth Grade fundraiser. On Saturday, Mrs. Starace and her second graders attended their Communion retreat in preparation for next week! On Sunday, our light was truly shining bright at our annual talent show directed by Ms. Quinlivan. From singing to dancing to magic, the talent is truly limitless here! Thank you to all our parents for all of their hard work to make these events possible. Let’s see what’s coming up next here at OLMCA!

 Re-registration for 2018-19

Priority registration for current students and their relatives ended as of Thursday, April 26. Families must be current on this year’s tuition to register for next year. It is imperative that you return the form as soon as possible to ensure that your child has a seat for the 2017-18 school year. If you are in need of an extra registration sheet, please contact the office at 718-793-2086. Financial aid may still be available for students in Grades K-8, who attend a Brooklyn or Queens School or Academy. Once you have registered for next year, you can apply online for a Diocesan scholarship. Families who apply during the first round are the only ones eligible for the maximum scholarship. For more information, please visit:

Offer letters will be sent directly to our Nursery families for our Pre-K for All Program on or around Wednesday, May 9. You must return the registration form to the office to secure a spot in our program. In addition to the completed registration packet, be sure to bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate, immunization record, and two proofs of address. More information will be sent to the current Nursery families as we approach May 9.

New York State Testing (May 1 and May 2)

Mathematics New York State Testing will begin for students in Grades 4, 6, and 8 this week. The exam has changed from two days to three days. Our students and their teachers have been hard at work preparing for these exams. We wish them the best of luck as they take their exams. In order for students to truly do their best, they need to come to school on time, have a good night’s sleep, and eat a healthy breakfast. Best of luck to all of our students as they apply their math skills to these exams!

Race for Education

Please mark your calendars! Our annual Walk-a-thon will be taking place on Friday, May 25. We have already started to receive donations from students, parents, friends, and relatives!  This year’s Race is dedicated to improving our outdoor play space and installing an air conditioner in our gymnasium. Each student will raise funds by asking sponsors- friends, neighbors and family-to donate a (tax deductible) fixed amount.
