Dear Parents and Guardians,

Race for Education

Please mark your calendars! Our annual Walk-a-thon will be taking place on Friday, May 25. We have already started to receive donations from students, parents, friends, and relatives!  This year’s Race is dedicated to improving our outdoor play space and installing an air conditioner in our gymnasium. Each student will raise funds by asking sponsors- friends, neighbors and family-to donate a (tax deductible) fixed amount.

Spring Fling

It is finally here! We mean the Spring Fling that is. The Spring Fling is making its opening debut next Friday evening, May 11th, at 7:30 until 9:00. There will be a $5 admission which entitles the early birds to get first choice on all the new and different items as well as light refreshments. The next day, May 12th, opening will be at 10:00. Bring your shopping carts so that you can carry home all the beautiful plants and gifts that you will be purchasing for Mom, Spouse, Grandma and any other “special” person in your life that you want to say “thank you” to. There will be several Vendors with whom you can shop, our own Treasure Trove (formerly Grandma’s Attic), our Spring Boutique, and a Café where you can have a snack and a chat with a friend before you continue shopping. Come shop, meet your neighbors and enjoy the day!

Diocesan Religion Bee

The Diocesan Religion Bee was held on Tuesday, May 8 at the Immaculate Conception Center. The students, competing in two grade levels, grades three through five, and grades six through eight, were asked various questions about the Catholic faith dealing with the liturgy, prayer, saints and the Bible. Representing Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Academy was Violet Dutton (Grade 4), Naomi Goya (Grade 5), and Ann Torres (Grade 8). After many competitive rounds, Ann Torres won the Diocesan Religion Bee for the Junior High! What an incredible achievement for Ann! Congratulations go also to her parents, her teachers and especially Mrs. Janice Ray, the coordinator of the OLMCA Religion Program

LaSalle Academy Art Exo

Many of our Junior High students submitted their best artistic work for the LaSalle Academy Art Expo. I am very happy to tell you that Ann Torres (Grade 8) won First Place and Julia Warren (Grade 8) and Ishaan Punwani (Grade 5) won Honorable Mention in the 29th Annual Art Expo at La Salle Academy. Congratulations to all students that participated. Thank you to Mr. Rudy Mosca for organizing the event.

The 2018 Blackboard Awards for Teachers: Excellence in Education

Congratulations to Mrs. Deborah Loscalzo on being awarded the 2018 Blackboard Award for Excellence in Education. The Blackboard Awards salute the professionals who work so hard to create and sustain successful learning communities in New York City. Winners, selected from over a thousand nomination each year submitted by parents, students and administrators, are honored in special issues of New York Family and at a spring ceremony.
