Here are two fun and educational writing activities to do with your child from the Water Unit:
Alphabet soup is a really fun activity that we did in our classroom. It helps support letter recognition and phonemic awareness.
Provide a pot of water and small plastic letters. Invite children to add letters and stir to create a soup. They can also create a recipe by writing down the letters they add to the pot.
Alternatively, you could have your child play Alphabet Soup Match-Up. See this link for visuals and directions: https://busytoddler.com/2019/07/alphabet-soup-sensory-activity/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=pinterest&utm_campaign=tailwind_tribes&utm_content=tribes&utm_term=777084486_31608906_154982
Invite children to write their names with a white crayon on white paper. Then add a layer of watercolor paint over their writing. While it will be challenging to see the white writing on white paper, it will be easy to read each child’s name after the paint has been applied. The children will be amazed to see their name magically appear! Talk about the letters in your child’s name and the sound that each letter makes.
